A variety of factors make a difference in later drinking behavior, such as the age you started drinking, what you choose as your first alcoholic drink and your parents’ attitudes towards alcohol.In particular, the study looked at how these early experiences can lead to binge drinking and excessive alcohol consumption later in life. Binge drinking is defined as a pattern of drinking that brings your blood alcohol concentration to 0.08 percent or more. This is the legal intoxication level in most of the United States. Men typically need 5 or more drinks in 2 hours to reach this limit, and women need 4 or more drinks.Most people who binge drink are not alcohol dependent, but binge drinking can lead to serious health problems, including stroke, heart disease, liver disease, increased cancer risk, and permanent memory and learning problems.If we become more aware of how early experiences with alcohol affect young people’s choices later in life, we may be able to prevent...click here to continue reading
