A woman was arrested in Barcelona, Spain, after she was caught allegedly smuggling cocaine inside her breasts.
The Associated Press reports the border police noticed suspicious activity Wednesday when a Panamanian woman arrived on a flight from Bogotá, Colombia, with scars and blood-stained gauze wrapped around her chest.
The woman was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where doctors worked to remove the implants from her body. Spain’s Interior Ministry said doctors found three pounds of cocaine packed inside the implants.
Many European authorities require passengers flying from Latin America to undergo strict security inspections to prevent drug smuggling.
This is not the first case of extreme drug smuggling.
In March of this year, U.S. Customs and Border Protection stopped Georgia resident Leeann Corley at the Peace Bridge Port of Entry in Buffalo, N.Y., after she tried to smuggle Ecstasy inside the stomach of a body suit she wore to make it appear she was pregnant. When questioned by border officials about her trip, Corley had difficulty keeping her story straight. When border officials searched her, they found 21 pounds of Ecstasy pills instead of a baby bump.
Corley was arrested and now faces federal charges.
