After years of lies to both himself and the rest of the world during his run as Hollywood's most dangerous bad boy, Colin Farrell seems to be addicted to telling the truth.

In a revealing interview with Details Magazine ahead of the 36-year-old Irish actor's new movie, "Seven Psychopaths," Farrell opens up on his days of abusing alcohol and drugs.

""Oh, I wouldn't tell a truth all day. If I'd had chicken and beans for dinner, I'd tell you I had steak and potatoes," Farrell says in the magazine's November issue. "No purpose, just habit. The amount of energy you have to put in and the amount of lies you have to tell to keep a drug habit alive, it's fairly significant. Your whole life is a lie."

One of the side-effects of cleaning up his act - aside from picking better roles - is tacking on an extra "eight hours a day now that I didn't have before, when I was drinking every day for 18 years."

"The bottom line is I ended up miserable," he says. "I'd done enough of a job of flagrantly abandoning myself in a very loud and public way that I began to fall apart, you know?"
